Honey, I Shrunk the X10 – X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro Launched at MWC

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 became official back in November 2010 after months of speculation revolving around its name and specification. Now, at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the X10 has been joined by two Xperia siblings, the X10 Mini – formally spotted as the Robyn – and the X10 Mini Pro.

The X10 Mini shapes up like this:

  • Google Android OS.
  • A 2.55″ touchscreen.
  • 3G with HSDPA.
  • Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS.
  • A 5 megapixel autofocus camera.
  • 3.5mm jack socket.

While the X10 Mini Pro contains all these features plus:

  • A slide-out QWERTY keyboard.

The Android version installed on the X10 Mini and Mini Pro is 1.6, with a small Sony Ericsson tweak in the form of four corner control, where each corner of the screen contains a customisable icon to launch popular applications.Like the X10, Sony Ericsson’s Timescape feature has also been included, where everything from SMS to social networking updates appear in a scrollable list.

With a name like Mini, you would expect these phones to be compact devices, and you would be right! The X10 Mini measures 83x50x16mm and weighs just 88 grams, while the X10 Mini Pro increases to 120 grams and a size of 90x52x17mm. To put this in perspective, the X10 weighs 135 grams and has the measurements of 119x63x13.S ony Ericsson always had a knack for making really small but still functional mobile phones, so we’re glad to see them return to that form factor.

The X10 Mini Pro will be available in Black or Red, while the X10 Mini will add Pearl White, Lime, Pink and Silver to the list of options. Both have been scheduled for a Q2 release, but nothing more solid was given at the press conference. To see the X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro in action, follow the links for a video of each.
