Nokia’s Comes With Music service is a great tool to get unlimited track downloads for free. Once you’ve bought your CWM handset you can download and play any music from the Nokia store – which has millions of tracks and artists. You can get 12, 18 and 24month licenses, giving you plenty of time to stock up on tunes legally! Once the subscription period is over, you can still download tracks but you’ll have to start paying for them on a pay per song basis- similar to iTunes. Alternatively you could get another license, but to do that you need to buy a new CWM handset. One final point to note, because of strict DRM management, once tracks are downloaded, they are only playable on your registered CWM device and computer, no CD burning, MP3 loading or sharing with friends. Having said that, it’s still a pretty good feature to have, giving you free range across Nokia’s entire music store.
So hopefully you understand the ins and outs of the Service itself, now onto how to access it. There are two ways this can be done, via your computer, or straight from your phone if you can access the web.
Computing it:
- When you first open the box to your new Nokia phone, you should find a Comes With Music leaflet and disc. Open up the leaflet to find the unique PIN and get the Disc in your computer.
- Follow the onscreen instructions to install Nokia Music and accept any updates that pop up.
- Now you need to get your phone and computer to talk. Using the USB cable supplied hook up your new device to your computer. A menu will appear on the phone, with one of the following options, Media Player, Printing and Media, Media Transfer.
- Click whichever Media option pops up and launch Nokia Music on the computer. Head to the store tab and click on Join Now. You’ll be asked to create a username and password, or enter your existing details if you already have a Nokia account.
- Once you’ve Joined up / Signed in you will be asked for the activation PIN that was in the leaflet. Type it in the box and hit enter. You can now pick tracks and download them to your computer and phone for free.
Trouble Downloading?
If you’re having trouble downloading to your computer, you can always re-download tracks by simply going to the CWM site> My Account> Music Vault> and click on Download. Before re-downloading, you will need to delete cookies from your browser.
- To do this go to Tools>Internet Options>General>Delete Cookies & Delete Files.
Phoning it:
- Find the activation leaflet in the box as before and get the PIN.
- From the main menu, go to the Music folder on your phone and open up the Nokia Music application.
- You’ll now need to connect to the web, choose an appropriate access point – either WLAN or an operators browser.
- Nokia Music will open up, from here follow the same instructions as before- Click on Join Now and enter your details. Submit the activation code to start your membership. If you want to transfer tracks to your PC you can do this via the USB cable at a later date.
