15 Things You Should Know About your HTC Tattoo

The HTC Tattoo is about to be replaced by the new HTC Desire and HTC Legend handsets. However, if you already have an HTC Tattoo, you might not want to get rid of it just yet. There are a lot of cool little things that you can do with this phone. You probably haven’t explored it fully yet.

Here are 15 things that you should know about using and enjoying your HTC Tattoo:

There are two ways to remove programs that you’ve downloaded to your HTC Tattoo. The first option is to go to your home screen. Select MENU. Choose “all programs”. Select “market”. Choose “downloads”. You will see the name of the applications that you have downloaded. Select the one that you want to uninstall. Press the “uninstall” button. Confirm that you want to do this by pressing “okay”. The other option is to choose “settings” from the MENU instead of choosing “all programs”. From here you can select “applications” and choose to “manage applications”. Select the new MENU button, choose the “filter” option and go to “3rd party”. You will see the programs that you’ve downloaded. Select the program, choose “uninstall” and confirm the action.

There are three different keyboards on this phone. You can use a full QWERTY keyboard, a compact 20-key QWERTY keyboard or a standard mobile phone numbered keypad keyboard. To switch between these options, go to your keyboard, look for the “settings” button the bottom left, choose “keyboard types” and pick the one that you want to use.

It’s easy to use the speakerphone on an HTC Tattoo. This allows you to speak and hear phone conversations without having to hold the phone up to your ear. It’s great during driving if you don’t have a hands-free headset. It’s also convenient when you’re using your phone while multitasking. To use this feature, simply press MENU and look for the option that says “speaker on”. When you are ready to return to normal calls, go to this same section and press “speaker off”.

You should create your own music playlists on this phone. The HTC Tattoo is a great phone for personalizing your music library. Go to the library, go to “playlists” and then go to “add playlist”. You can create different playlists here using the music from your library.

Your phone screen can be easily calibrated. Sometimes your phone gets desensitized to the way that you tap on the home screen. This is annoying but it’s easy to fix on an HTC Tattoo. Simply go to the MENU, choose “settings”, select the “sound and display” option and choose “calibration”. You’ll see a target here. Hold it down and the screen will be calibrated. It should work better now.

Change the font of your device’s emails. Do you use the Exchange Server emails option on your HTC Tattoo? If so then you might be interested in knowing that you can change the font of these emails to make them larger or smaller. To do this, go to MENU. Make the following selections: “all programs”, “mail”, “menu”, “more”, “settings”, “general”, “font size”. Set the size that you want.

Don’t forget to use flight mode. You can easily change your phone to flight mode when you’re on an airplane. Find the “end call” button. Hold it down until an option appears. Select “airplane mode”. Change it back using the same process.

Add a custom skin to your phone. The HTC Tattoo is friendlier than other phones when it comes to personalizing it with custom skins. Use this to your advantage and personalize your handset.

Your HTC Tattoo knows which applications you’ve used recently. It’s easy to access apps from your home screen but it’s even easier when those are apps that you’ve used recently. Press and hold down the HOME button. The six apps that you used most recently will pop up.

During a call, you can take another call or add a third caller to your call. Just ask the first person to hang on for a minute. Answer the second call. Look at your screen and you will see that both contacts are on the screen. Select the one that you want to talk to. Press “end call” when you are done talking to one of them. If you want to make this a conference call, then select the merge button (a two-bottom arrow) at the bottom right of the screen.

It’s worth it to add the People Widget. The HTC Tattoo makes it really easy to organize and call different contacts by allowing you to download this widget. It’s terrific for adding favourites, seeing call histories and just keeping people in order on your phone. You can even see Flickr and Facebook updates from here.

It’s also worth it to add the Email Widget. If you use email on your phone then it’s a good idea to add this widget. It means that you’ll be able to get straight into your email from an icon on the home screen. This saves a lot of time and hassle.

You can confirm that your SMS messages were really delivered. Sometimes it’s hard to tell if your messages go through but that problem is solved with the HTC Tattoo. Simply go to MENU, select settings, choose SMS settings and turn on “delivery reports”. You’ll receive reports about the delivery status of your text messages. You can do the same thing for your MMS settings, too.

It’s easy to share web links with HTC Tattoo. When browsing the mobile web, you will obviously see links. To share them, simply hold down the link. (If you just tap it, it will open; if you hold it down, you’ll get other options.) One of your options will be to share the link via email. This is a great feature.

Your HTC Tattoo can be a modem. You’ll need a SIM card and a USB cable to make this work. Connect the phone to the computer using the cable. A box will pop up. Choose the option for “mobile network sharing”. You should be able to get on to the Internet on your computer using your phone’s wireless connecting. Some features of your phone may be limited while you’re doing this.

I agree with Smithy that th HTC Tattoo targets a different area of the mobile phone market. But i can see it being slowly pushed out of the HTC catalogue by the newer handsets like the HTC Desire and Legend – with more competative prices Smartphones are getting higher specced at cheaper prices!

Erm, the Tattoo is not being replaced by the Desire and Legend, they are different level handsets. Tattoo is the base model on which the others build — Legend selling on design, the Desire on performance.
