Interesting Facts About the Queen’s Blackberry

Queen Elizabeth II recently took a trip to Canada where she was able to visit the RIM mobile phone factory. She was presented with a new Blackberry handset. Here are some fun facts about her trip and her phone:

  • The Queen received the new Blackberry Bold. She now has a Bold 9700 that was given to her by a co-founder of RIM.
  • The phone was personalized for her. The BlackBerry Bold that she received was personalized with an image of her being offered flowers by a group of children. One of the things that makes smartphones great is the fact that they can easily be personalized for and by the person using them!
  • The Queen loves free stuff. The Queen is known for her frugality. It has been frequently noted that she will take trains, wear older clothes instead of new styles and make an effort to save money by turning off lights that aren’t in use. Surely she was happy to receive a free phone.
  • The Queen is a BlackBerry fan. Prince Andrew (who is notably far less frugal than the Queen) introduced her to BlackBerry handsets about three years ago. She has apparently been a fan of them ever since. She also has her senior staff members using the devices so that she can keep in touch with them in the most up-to-date manner.
  • The Queen is high-tech. She may be from an older generation but the BlackBerry handset isn’t the only thing that makes her up-to-date with technology. In fact, she was the first monarch ever to send an email, something that she did more than thirty years ago! It’s no wonder that she’s a fan of BlackBerry; it’s only surprising that she didn’t get interested in these high-tech phones even sooner than she did!
