Grab your popcorn! Here’s our guide to the best Film and Cinema phone apps around at the moment. Lights, camera, action!

iPhone& Android – British Film Locations from etvonline

This is a way to tour Britain with a difference.  From Harry Potter’s Hogwarts (Alnwick Castle in Northumberland) to the west coast of Scotland, where The Wicker Man was filmed, this app uses a built-in Google map to guide you around these famous locations.

1. iPhone – Movie Almanac

This app is basically a major reference guide for everything about the cinema, providing information about all films from the early days of the movies, to the present day. An absolute treat for any film-geek and an essential pub quiz tool!

2. iPhone,  Android and Blackberry – Movies by Flixter

Can’t decide what film you want to see? Want to share your reviews of films with friends and like-minded cinema goers? This app was made for people like you and works on a range of handsets! It includes trailers, synopses and reviews.

3. iPhone – 6DOH

Have you heard of the game Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon, based on the principle of finding connections between random movie people? This is a madly addictive version which allows you to test your trivia knowledge against the clock.

4. iPhone -Showtimes

The popular American application for checking cinema times is now available in the UK. It’s ideal for last-minute decisions, but also has a GPS function which will direct you to the nearest cinema showing the film of your choice.

5. iPhone and Android – IMDb official app

IMDb – the internet movie database is the best-known film resource on the web and is now available on Android devices as well as the iPhone. There are some limitations to this app as it isn’t (as yet) fully integrated with the web version of the site, but the grand-daddy of movie resources is still hard to beat.

6. iPhone – Harry Potter: Spells

Turn your mobile phone into a magic wand and cast spells like Harry Potter! With this fun app you can imagine that you have enrolled in Hogwarts and take on duels with your newly learnt spells. Just expect funny looks on the train…

7. iPhone – 007: Top Agent

And this is your chance to become James Bond 007, battling other players by Wi-Fi and classic Bond villains, such as Goldfinger and Oddjob. Who could turn down the chance to be James Bond?

8. iPhone – Best Movie Quotes!

There are lots of film-related trivia quizzes to choose from, but this is a really good one to test (and show off) your knowledge. Feel the force!

9. iPhone – Cult Movie in 60 Seconds

Even the biggest film buffs can find themselves caught out sometimes. If your brain is burning with questions like “what was Jacob’s Ladder really all about?” and “what was the name of the milk bar in A Clockwork Orange?” then this is definitely for you. It’s a mine of brilliant information on cult movies!

10. iPhone – Movie Tweets

Want to find out what the Twitterati are saying about a film or film star? This is a good way to find people with similar likes and dislikes. You don’t even need to have a Twitter account for this application, so it’s a nice way for film fans with allergies to the tweeting tool to access live updates about cinema.

    Thanks for the link; I have it booamkrked now. It would have been nice if the Georgetown 14 had mentioned this page in one of their last weekly e-mails- or maybe they did, and I just wasn’t paying attention.
