The world record for the fastest texter has not long been broken, but this isn’t the only phone record that people are regularly trying to break. Take a look at these other accomplishments in record-breaking mobile phone news:
Fastest Blind Text Messaging. In 2007, New Zealand teenager Elliot Nicholls set a new world record for sending the fastest text message while blindfolded. He sent a complete 160-letter text in 45 seconds without being able to see the screen at all.
Fastest No-Practice Text Messaging. The person who holds the Guinness World Record for being the fastest texter has to type: “The razor-toothed piranhas of the genera Serrasalmus and Pygocentrus are the most ferocious freshwater fish in the world. In reality, they seldom attack a human.” This means that they can practice beforehand. In contrast, The Book of Alternative Records tests the fastest texter as being someone who types an unknown message. The current record holder correctly typed a 160-character message in approximately one minute.
Most Text Messages Sent In One Month. In 2005, Engadget reported that a man from Indian had broken the world record for sending the most text messages in one month. He sent over 180,000 texts that’s an average of 6000 SMS messages per day. Hopefully he had unlimited texting!
Fastest Pair of Texters. Earlier this year LG hosted the Mobile World Cup and named two teenagers the fastest pair of texters.
World’s Largest Mobile Phone. Quick texting is actually a really useful skill in today’s world and while the largest ever working mobile phone would be lot less useful, we still find it interesting. The current record is held by Cricket Communications and Samsung who teamed up to win the title in 2009 with a phone that came in at 4.57 x 3.42 x 0.74 m (15 ft x 11 ft 2 in x 2 ft 6 in).
World’s Lightest Mobile Phone. For something slightly more practical, the modu phone has a music player and 2 GB of internal memory in a handset that only weighs 40.1 g (1.41 oz).
Largest Gathering of People Dressed as Mobile Phones. This was awarded in 2007 when Open Mobile and Motorola got 275 people together in one space, each dressed as Motorola’s MOTOSLVR L7C. The group walked together through the streets of Puerto Rico to advertise the phone and showcase their Guinness World Record win.
Most Expensive Mobile Phone. The phone currently holding the Guinness World Record as the most expensive handset is the white gold-and-diamond ‘Le Million’ Piece Unique by GoldVish SA. It’s even more expensive than the top designer mobile phones.
Mobile Phone Throwing Records. This odd sport has gained a lot of attention over the years. Current world records for distance are 95.83 meters (314.4 ft) for men and 53.52 meters (175.6 ft) for women. These records were set in 2007 and 2006 respectively in the UK tournaments for mobile phone throwing.
Longest Fingernails. Technically this doesn’t have anything to do with mobile phones but the woman who holds the record for having the longest fingernails (35″ long each) has proven that she is still capable of using a phone. Wow!
