WP7 Samsung Focus Goes to the USA

Published October 13, 2010 by Andrew Boxall in Mobile Phones, News

The Samsung Focus is actually one of the first Windows Phone 7 devices we caught a glimpse of, but back then it was known as the Samsung Cetus.  Now, the Focus i917 has been announced as one of the debut phones destined for the the US market, where the UK will get the i8700 Omnia 7 instead.

Other than slightly different looks, the pair are identical in terms of features, boasting the following spec sheet:

  • A 4″ Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen.
  • A 5 megapixel camera with 720p video recording.
  • GPS with a digital compass.
  • 3G with HSDPA and HSUPA.
  • 1Ghz Snapdragon processor.
  • Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1.

The Focus is an AT&T exclusive and therefore will only be available in the USA, and will come loaded with the AT&T U-verse Mobile digital TV app discussed at the recent Windows Phone 7 launch event.  One thing that does make the Focus standout is the presence of a microSD card slot, something of a rarity on Windows Phone 7 handsets.  It also has 8GB of internal memory as standard.

The Focus will be on sale from the 8th November in the USA.
