Cast your mind back a few years when Harry Potter had a competitor for the number one movie spot each Christmas.  Yes, the Lord of the Rings trilogy were among the biggest films of all time and managed the almost impossible feat of making ardent Tolkein fans happy while also attracting a new army of devotees, some of whom would argue that they aren’t geeks…

We are big LOTR fans and so welcome the fact that our favourite characters are coming to smartphone and tablet devices with the launch of ‘Lord of the Rings: Middle Earth Defense’.

It does sound amazing.  There are actual special effects taken from the movies and all the main LOTR people take part: Legolas, Gandalf, Gimli (our favourite), Aragorn and all the hobbits.  The best thing about the game is fighting against the iconic baddies – orcs, goblins, trolls – you name it, you can fight it!

The Lord of the Rings: Middle Earth Defense is now available worldwide for $6.99 on iPhone and iPod Touch as well as on iPad for $9.99 on the App Store or at iTunes.
