How are you going to ring in the New Year? Are you going to host a big party at your house, pop open the champagne and kiss someone you love at midnight? Or are you heading to a big street party in a major city like New York or London? If you’re an iPhone fan then you’re going to have your phone with you no matter what you decide to do. Here are ten apps that you might want to load onto it to help you celebrate the end of 2010 and the start of the New Year.
- New Year Noise Maker by aGupieWare. Forget all of those old-fashioned toy noise makers that people pull out to create a cacophony of sound at midnight on New Year’s Eve. Get the iPhone app version instead.
- New Year’s Noise by Stuart Rubin’s Software. This is another New Year’s Eve noisemaker app for the iPhone. This one has the option of selecting the sound that you want to make or simply shaking the iPhone to randomly select a noise. The backdrop on it is New York’s Times Square so if you’re wishing you were there this holiday season then this may be the app for you.
- Waterford Clink Clink. When the clock strikes midnight you’re supposed to hold your glass up to someone else’s and clink them together to ring in the New Year. If you’re not a drinker or you just prefer virtual life to real life sometimes, then get this app that allows you to “clink” your iPhone against another. You’ll see champagne bubbles on your screen as you make your toast.
- New Year Countdown 2011 by Shake for Charity. This is a basic countdown app that shows you how many days, minutes, etc. are left until 2011 starts. When the countdown is done and 2011 has begun you can press a simple button to connect to Facebook and automatically send a Happy New Year’s message to all of your friends.
- Exact Countdown 2011 by Time and Date. This is another New Year’s Eve countdown app. It’s simpler than the Shake for Charity app and provides a straightforward way of making sure that you’re celebrating the New Year at the right time.
- New Year Wallpaper by Pocket Books. If you enjoy changing the wallpaper on your iPhone to match the season then you may enjoy the selection of New Year themed wallpaper options that this app offers.
- New Year Quotes by BlingApps. Start the year off with some inspiring messages using this app that delivers them right to your phone. You can rate quotes and save the ones that you like to look at again and again throughout 2011. You can also inspire others by emailing them your favourite quotes.
- New Year by iCardz2Go. This is an app that provides you with two dozen New Year’s themed cards to send to others.
- Fireworks by Computer Docs LLC. Create your own New Year’s Eve fireworks show if you can’t get to a formal one this year. This app allows you to use music from your library to go along with a fireworks show on your iPhone screen.
- New Year Present Panic Lite! If you’re looking for a New Year’s themed game to add to your iPhone for holiday entertainment then this is a good one to choose. The goal is to tap like crazy on the snowman on your screen to collect presents for the New Year. Silly but addictive.
