RIM’s Top Dog, the BlackBerry Dakota Breaks Free

Behold the first official looking shot of the BlackBerry Dakota, tipped to be the best smartphone to carry the BlackBerry name. BGR managed to get their hands on the rumoured handset which oozes traditional Bold style and comes with a rather hefty spec sheet. Here’s what we know:

  • 2.8 inch VGA 640 x 480 capacitive screen
  • Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE
  • Tri-band UMTS
  • 5 megapixel camera with HD video recording, flash and image stabilisation
  • 4GB of built-in storage, 768MB of RAM
  • Wi-Fi b/g/n on 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies
  • 3G mobile hotspot
  • microUSB port
  • Bluetooth
  • NFC
  • Magnetometer
  • Accelerometer
  • Proximity sensor
  • 10.5mm thin
  • BlackBerry OS 6.1

It all looks and sounds fairly legit to us and we wonder if the next version of BlackBerry OS6 has any more new treats in store. No word on pricing or a potential launch date yet but considering the Dakota was last spotted in July 2010, it may just be getting the finishing touches now before it meets its public.
