BlackBerry PlayBook ‘Can Support Android Apps’

Published February 28, 2011 by Louise ReidFeatured, News, Tablets

There have been recent rumblings that RIM may be bringing Android apps to the upcoming BlackBerry PlayBook, despite it running on its own QNX-based operating system.

Fortunately, a RIM representative answered one of the tech world’s most burning questions on video whilst demonstrating the PlayBook at Mobile World Congress. You can watch the clip below where he claims that the tablet will be able to run Android apps, a move which many believe is a one from the Canadian manufacturer to give the iPad 2 a serious run for its money.

The 7 inch PlayBook is due to hit shelves across the world from March and while it has already received rave reviews from tech critics, a potential move in to the second-largest mobile development ecosystem would give the BlackBerry pad a huge boost in the market.
