Manufacturers are taking a lot more notice of the new Android Ice Cream Sandwich update than previous editions, with HTC and Samsung both announcing their intentions to update at least some of their most popular phones to the very latest version of the OS. This makes a change from the almost total silence surrounding older Android builds.
Sony Ericsson has added its name to the line-up too, publishing an announcement on their official product blog that the Xperia range of phones would soon be benefiting from some lovely Ice Cream Sandwich. It’s not just one or two Xperia phones that’ll be updated either, but the entire 2011 range!
In case you’ve lost track, the phones are as follows: The Xperia Arc, Xperia Arc S, Xperia PLAY, Xperia Neo, Xperia Neo V, the Xperia Mini and Mini Pro, Xperia Active, the Xperia Ray and finally, the Live with Walkman phone.
Sony Ericsson says it’s ‘working on merging the current Xperia experience with the new features in Android 4.0′, which we translate as meaning ‘we’ve only just got started, so have a bit of patience!’
They suggest watching the blog for updates concerning the release and availability of Ice Cream Sandwich, and much as we want to get excited, knowing Sony Ericsson we’re probably not going to see any action this side of the New Year. Still, at least we know it’s coming!
