Ice Cream Sandwich Upgrade Announced for LG Optimus Range

Confirming that manufacturers are taking Ice Cream Sandwich far more seriously as an upgrade to their existing range of smartphones than previous Android builds, LG becomes the latest to announce the first run of devices to receive the new OS.

Posting on their official Facebook page, LG says that the Optimus 3D, Optimus Black, Optimus 2X and the Optimus LTE will be the first set of phones to be updated, although owners will have to wait until December to find out when this will happen.

It won’t stop there either, as the company will ‘evaluate the ICS OS to determine whether it is compatible with the functionality, features and performance of other LG smartphones’, so there is a chance a few other phones will be added to the list at a later date.

Comments posted under LG’s announcement show just how users of the firm’s Android devices have been suffering when it comes to updates, as Optimus Black owners are bemoaning the lack of Android Gingerbread, which suggests LG will skip Android 2.3 entirely.

LG joins Sony Ericsson, HTC and Samsung in publicly announcing plans to update certain models to Android Ice Cream Sandwich.
