Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer HTC may have been riding high during the third quarter of 2011, with the company becoming the largest mobile producer in the United States. However, it seems that a lack of new models on the horizon and competition from the iPhone 4s are still having an impact as the company’s share price continues to fall.
HTC, it seems, is pinning many of its hopes on the new HTC Ville, a device that it’s been suggested could be announced later month after leaked photos appeared online.
Initial specs are pretty impressive with the Ville reportedly boasting the MSM8260 Snapdragon chipset (which was included in the recent Sensation XE), and the same quad-core processor featured in the upcoming HTC Edge. Ice Cream Sandwich is said to be the operating system of choice whilst HTC Sense 4.0 is also tipped to make an appearance.
The more affordable yet still high-end Ville is expected to be announced at HTC’s Mobile World Congress event happening later this month. This expected 2012 device line-up might just be what HTC needs to challenge Samsung’s dominance of the Android smartphone market.
