Over the past weeks the Lumia 910 has been the focus of most Nokia-related rumours. The phone is said to be very similar to the US-only Lumia 900, except instead of a 4G radio, it’ll have a 12 megapixel camera to make it standout against the Lumia 800.
The rumour can be traced back to a tweet from Mobile-Review’s Eldar Murtazin, who said the 910 would make an appearance at Mobile World Congress at the end of February, and that it would have a 12 megapixel camera.
This was followed by an advert appearing on an Internet retailers site, listing the Lumia 910 with its impressive camera, but showing a picture of the AT&T Lumia 900. At no time has the phone been confirmed by Nokia, but the rumour had the air of credibility, in that it didn’t add something ridiculous to the specification.
Now though, a tweet from Damian Dinning, one of Nokia’s top imaging specialists has said that he knows of no such device. Answering a question from a follower about just such a phone, he simply replied ‘nope doesn’t exist.’
There could be various forces at work here. First, he could be absolutely correct, and a 12 megapixel Windows Phone is a figment of our imagination. Second, he may not know about the device, although given his work on the N8 and N9′s camera, this seems unlikely. Finally, he’s doing the responsible corporate thing and denying all knowledge.
It could also be a secret forth option, and that he was referring to the AT&T pre-order page referenced on Twitter, rather than the device itself.
If the Lumia 910 and its 12 megapixel camera isn’t Nokia’s big reveal at Mobile World Congress, what will be? Yesterday we reported that the company could be planning their final Symbian device, which coincidentally was said to be a successor to the N8, sometimes called the 803 or N8-01, but otherwise the newswires have been quiet regarding new Nokia hardware.
With its press conference invitations promising an ‘adventure in Barcelona,’ it looks like they really could catch us by surprise.
