Leaked Nokia 803 Promises Incredible Camera

Published February 9, 2012 by Andrew Boxall in Featured, Mobile Phones, News

The Nokia 803 has been tipped as the last Symbian smartphone, and the successor to the Nokia N8, once again. The 803 first appeared back in December last year, when PocketNow published an image supposedly taken from the device’s manual.

Although there were no specifications to go along with the simple outline of the phone, it was suggested it would have a 3.5-inch touchscreen, a 1GHz processor and potentially, an even better camera than the N8′s.

Since then, the news that Nokia has canned all other Symbian phone releases bar the N8 replacement has broken, and today BGR has provided another take on the 803′s spec sheet.

Their sources say the phone will run Nokia Belle and have a 4-inch AMOLED screen, an HDMI-out, NFC capabilities and will use a microSIM, just like the iPhone 4/4S and the Nokia’s own Lumia phones. While the extra screen real estate sounds good, we’d like to see an increase in power too, so with luck the phone will get the Lumia 800′s 1.4GHz processor too.

More importantly – especially if the 803 will replace the N8 – the report says the phone will have ‘one of the largest camera sensors, if not the largest, ever seen on a mobile phone.’ At 1/1.83-inches, the Nokia N8 already has the largest sensor going, so the battle will be in-house.

With a rumoured release in May, it seems sensible to expect the 803 to show up at Mobile World Congress, which is now just a few weeks away.
