Samsung has begun sending out invitations to an event to be held in London on 3 May, and judging by the words ‘come and meet the next Galaxy’ printed on them, we’re about to see the launch of the highly-anticipated Galaxy S III.
Although very little is known about the S III, it has rivalled the next Apple iPhone in terms of speculation and excitement – a point Samsung has exploited to its advantage by keeping the device’s design and its features veiled in secrecy.
This isn’t the first Galaxy S III event invitation we’ve seen, as just a few weeks ago, one was leaked that gave 22 May as the potential date of the event, however, the promotional blurb and slightly suspect image didn’t ring true. It did fit in with another leak though, and there could have been a time Samsung was considering 22 May as a potential launch date.
Set for 7pm on 3 May, the London location fits in well with Samsung’s support of the 2012 Olympics, and there’s a chance we’ll also get to see the company’s special Olympic phone, which will be provided to athletes and then sold as a limited edition device around the world.
As for the S III, a quad-core Exynos processor is expected to provide power for a big touchscreen, possibly as large as 4.6-inches, with a high definition resolution, and Google Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The chassis could have a ceramic finish, although the design remains a mystery.
With just over two weeks to go, it won’t be long until all is revealed.
