LG: “No Optimus Vu for the UK”

The LG Optimus Vu may have been announced back in February this year, but the tablet/smartphone hybrid with its 5-inch, 4:3 ratio screen has never been far from the news.

Most recently, it has been said the original dual-core processor was to be swapped out in favour of a quad-core chip, bringing it not only bang up-to-date, but also making it a worthy challenger to Samsung’s newly announced Galaxy Note 2.

Despite the long gap in-between its announcement and possible UK release – it’s LG, after all – many still hoped it would eventually go on sale here. But sadly, in an interview with CNET UK, the new head of LG’s mobile division, Andy Coughlin, has said that no, the Vu is “unlikely to come to the UK in 2012.”

This comes as something of a blow, and goes against LG’s own statement that a simple 3G version of the Vu would be out in September. We even expected more news at last week’s IFA 2012 show, plus more information on the mysterious Optimus Vu: II too.

Coughlin has doubts that the Vu fits in with the company’s plans for Europe in the lead up to Christmas, but does add that the decision isn’t final. Perhaps the updated version will come here in early 2013 instead?

That’s certainly the plan for the exciting Optimus G, with its quad-core Snapdragon processor and 1280 x 720, 4.7-inch touchscreen, as LG plans to bring it to UK stores during the first quarter of next year.

    • Hi, John

So far there’s been no announcement about the Optimus Vu2 getting a UK launch and we haven’t had the opportunity to test the handset ourselves. You can keep checking the Dialaphone blog for any information that emerges about the device and we’ll review it if we get our hands on one in the future.

However, the 4X HD is an excellent handset that performed well when we reviewed it last year and it could be worth keeping hold of in place of the Vu2 itself.

If you have any questions about either of the handsets just let us know and we’ll get back to you.

      Thanks

      Chris, Dialaphone
