Android’s Global Domination Quest Continues

Android Domination

Google’s Android held 79% of the global smartphone market share in the second quarter of 2013.

According to market research firm Gartner, Google-powered devices accounted for 64.2% of sales in the same period last year.

A press release issued by Gartner this week stated that: “Android continues to dominate with nearly 80% market share.”

The 14.8% increase from the same quarter in 2012 further distances Android from other platforms. Microsoft’s Windows Phone OS has inched its way into third place with sales figures showing a 3.3% share this past quarter – an increase from last year’s 2.6%.

BlackBerry and its BB10 platform managed to capture just 2.7% of the market, dropping from the 5.2% sales share of last year.
