Massive, Fingerprint-Scanning HTC One max is Now Official

HTC One Max

HTC has announced the HTC One max, the long-awaited third phone in its One range of devices. While the original HTC One has a relatively large 4.7-inch screen, the One Max has a massive 5.9-inch display, absolutely dwarfing the much smaller, 4.3-inch One mini. With a screen size like that, it’s obvious HTC is targeting those who’d otherwise buy the Galaxy Note 3. Is it a real contender?

The screen is slightly bigger than Samsung’s phablet, and shares the same 1080p resolution, so it’s off to a good start. HTC has decided to use a quad-core, 1.7GHz Snapdragon 600 processor inside the One max, which isn’t quite as fast as the Snapdragon 800 you’ll find in most of its competition. There’s still 2GB of RAM, plus a choice of either 16GB or 32GB internal memory.

On the rear of the One max is the lens to the UltraPixel camera plus, just as the rumours suggested, a fingerprint scanner. This can be used to unlock the phone, or to activate a selection of apps, as it can recognise the input of more than one finger.

Other features include a 1.2-megapixel forward facing camera – which can record at the same time as the rear camera – a microSD card slot, HTC’s BoomSound stereo speakers, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0 and 4G LTE connectivity. Android 4.3 is installed, and a new version of HTC Sense comes with it. We can expect the HTC One Max to go on sale near the end of October in the UK.

We’ve had a short amount of time with the device already, so check back later today for a first look at HTC’s phablet device in our hands on video review.
